Dear Business Owners/Sales Agents/Consumer Agencies...
Please notify your potential customers that your competitor Transamerica Moving is a fraudulent and corrupt business that practices falsifying load weights (by more than double), and holds the load for ransom, demanding outrageous extorsion payments from the recipients.
Everything about Transamerica Moving's service was misprepresented. They lied about their BBB standing which was revoked on 6/18/2008.
They were 5.5 hrs. late picking up (no status call provided). They lied about delivery time, were 96 hrs. late, (no status call provided). They showed up unexpectedly, claiming a weight double that of the actual weight taken during moving prep.
They demanded more than $2000 additional (extorsion/ransom) payment from the recipient and threatened to keep the load in storage (hostage) if payment was not received immediately.
Both sender and recipient tried numerous times to contact Transamerica Customer Serivice. Each time we reached someone, we were promised (4+ times) they would contact the driver, and their supervisor, and then get back to us. They never returned our calls.
Their story changes daily. First, they were late because a driver quit. Then it was due to equipment. After pickup, I spoke with the driver who said he was on the road heading south and would deliver in LA the next morning. At noon the next day we contacted the driver asking for delivery status, and he said he and the load were now in Sacramento (several hours north) in the Transamerica lot and could not drive due to being over his driving hours quota. They said the earliest they could deliver was Thurs, between 8-10am 4/2. Last night (Weds.) the recipient got an urgent call informing her they would deliver right away.
When Transamerica Moving arrived, the driver claimed the weight was more than double the actual weight, and demanded $2073 additional payment from the recipient. The driver said he was being instructed by his company to do this and threatened the load would be returned to Transamerica Storage.
The move was supposed to have been entirely prepaid. The recipient, a recently divorced, single-parent of 2, was greatly distressed at the request for payment. The driver was demanding payment directly from her or her familly and refused to charge my credit card as the company had already done twice. The scene became one of extreme tension and chaos. Finally, the company charged my credit card (without my authorization) and only then did the driver unload the furniture.
I am now suing Transamerica for the extorsion payment $2073, plus $500 from the original prepaid amount for failure to perform per contract. Bank of America, the Better Business Bureau, the Saugus Police Department, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) and Small Claims Court are all not involved.
