The Ameli rep we spoke with prior to the actual move said we would be presented with a "not to exceed" quote when the movers arrived. They did not show a "do not exceed" quote until 30 minutes before they were finished unloading and had a quote of over $2,500 when previous moves similar to the one we were doing didn't exceed $600.
When they arrived, they did not give us a start time and when we realized it, they claimed to have arrived 15-30 minutes earlier than we knew they did. They did not write down the time of the drive or state it to us, and then at the end said the drive time was about 30-50% longer than it should have been. They doubled the drive time, which is standard, and then proceeded to add a 5% fuel surcharge, which was never disclosed. In addition to that, I specifically asked a few days before about a fuel surcharge and was told there was none. On top of this, they charged a hefty sum for shrink wrap, which other movers have included in the move price, and once again was not disclosed.
Overall, based on previous experiences with movers, I felt that Ameli packed our stuff well and took care of our furniture; However, I did not feel they accurately represented their pricing and erred in their favor on the moving and drive times instead of writing it down. On the positive side, they were friendly, and arrived on time.
